Would a female cat be best?

I have a nuttered male cat being doubble teamed by my 2 dogs, there is a female cat i want to get to give him company, the cat i wanna get is ok with dogs so thats good, and i know getting a male cat will cause peeing and stuff to show dominance, i just want to make sire getting a female cat is better than a male
