In asking in the Mythology & Folklore section, do I need to state that "I know these creatures are mythical"?
Some people think they're being a smarty-pants when they answer under the assumption that YOU think the mythological creature they're asking about is real. Or they're worried that you might think that they believe in elves or vampires or whatever. But sometimes, you do come across a question where the asker seems so sincere that you feel compelled to let them know that werewolves/unicorns/vampires do not, in fact, exist. If the answers are actually providing you with the information you're looking for, then don't worry about them feeling the need to also let you know that the mythological creatures are mythical. But if they seem to be hung up on letting you in on that piece of news, you may find it helpful to pre-emptively include that in your question.
